Woonallee On Farm Field Day
7 October 2008
Your Chance to Win a $2000 credit at the 2009 Woonallee Sale
Dear Woonallee Client
At this time of the year, we would all like to see further substantial rains, but seasonal conditions are more promising than the last couple of years in many areas. This has allowed us to place a stronger focus on our on going breeding program. We are particularly pleased with the quality of our yearling stock, but most importantly we continue to be genuinely excited about our future genetic progress. We have again undertaken a large embryo transfer program with our donor females; here in Australia, South Africa and the USA from our alliance with Buzzard Hollow Ranch.
Our breeding program has continued to strengthen with the use of our top herd sires Woonallee Hadau, Woonallee Boulder, Woonallee BHR Tornado (P), Barana Zorro and Willandra Benny Hill (P). These sires have formed one of the most powerful sire batteries available in the Simmental breed. Our extensive search for an elite polled sire has now been realised with the purchase of the Australian rights in Gibby’s Real Deal; the most exciting homozygous polled bull in the world today. This truly awesome young sire will be used exclusively in Australia at Woonallee, with his first Australian calves due in the spring of 2009.
To give you an insight into these latest developments and breeding directions, we would like to invite you to join us on Friday the 21st of November, from 12:00 noon. You will be able to inspect next year’s sale bulls, plus stud sires and some of our proven donor cows.
Mr Rick White, head vet of Elders Livestock Management Solutions will be our guest speaker and will talk on weaning and how to get the maximum potential out of this process. He will outline the advantages of the ELMS weaning system and how this program helps with the marketing of our cattle in the future. We will be using the ELMS weaning system in both our commercial and stud herds this coming season.
All attending will have a chance to win a $2,000 buying credit at our 2009 sale. To win the competition, you simply need to assess a selection of young bulls and place them in the same order of merit as our guest judge, Mr Lachlan Day.
The program for the field day is listed below and for catering purposes, please RSVP to either Lizzy Baker on 08 87660030, or Nina Murphy on 08 87 343031.
