Adelaide Show Success for Woonallee

The 2012 Adelaide show will be rated as “A once in a lifetime “experience for us at Woonallee. We were over the moon after the Simmental judging, but it got better from there with a clean sweep of the Interbreed awards as well.

The heifers started the ball rolling for us at Simmental judging, with Woonallee Irene (P) being awarded the Junior Champion heifer and Woonallee Lady (P) being awarded the Reserve Junior Champion heifer. Irene is the first calf from Irene E203 who gained many friends at the 2010 World Congress, and sired by Woonallee Elevate who was purchased by Peter Morley, Molong in our 2011 sale, she impressed judge, Mr Colin Rex with her refinement, impeccable structure, softness and style. The Reserve Junior Champion heifer, Woonallee Lady, was another classy daughter by the homozygous sire Gibby’s Real Deal and appealed to Mr Rex for her length of body, tremendous depth and softness. In the other heifer classes, Woonallee Kathie won the 14-16 month class and Woonallee Rina was third in the same class.

Woonallee Ashante E208 was our only entry in the cow section and was awarded Reserve Senior Champion cow. Ashante is a powerful BHR Draco daughter out of the full sister to the legendary BHR Three Sixes and she is accompanied by an incredible bull calf sired by Woonallee BHR Tornado.

The bulls kept up their end of the bargain with the much anticipated Woonallee Goldrush (P) taking out the Junior and Grand championship. A powerful polled son of Woonallee BHR Tornado (P), Goldrush (P) is undoubtedly the best we have ever seen here at Woonallee. Weighing in at 830kgs, with 120 EMA and only a May drop, his performance is beautifully matched with his length of body, thickness, softness and sires outlook, “A breed changing sire” according to judge Mr Colin Rex. Also performing well was Woonallee General (P) who was awarded the Reserve Junior championship. A powerful son of Gibby’s Real Deal with huge capacity, softness and thickness. Also performing well was Woonallee Goofy (P) who was second to Goldrush in the 14-16 month class.

Goldrush (P) finished his incredible run by winning the Supreme exhibit of the Simmental breed and led the group of three for a win in the sire’s progeny group and also the breeders group.

But just when we thought things could not get any better, the “Golden run” continued with winning the Interbreed for the sire’s progeny group of three. The group consisted of Woonallee Goldrush (P), W. Kathie (P) and W. Rina (P); they were sired by Woonallee BHR Tornado (P), who is fast becoming one of the most influential sire of the breed.

Next into the ring was the Interbreed Junior pair, and with a near perfect score, Woonallee Goldrush (P) and Woonallee Irene (P) out shone the 18 other breeds to win this prestigious award. It was the second year in row we had taken out this honour.

Finishing off the Interbreed judging was the Grand champion pair. This time Goldrush (P) paired with Rellum farms Tabatha and in the trifecta for the Simmental breed, they won this great award. A truly outstanding show for us, the Simmental breed in its 40th year and it left us with only one question being unanswered. Will we sell this incredible young sire, Goldrush, or keep him for our next herd changing sire! Stay tuned.
